Is there
a novel in the couplet –
what’s the form for?
Is this a simple case
of it is what it is?

I’m afraid
we’re all out
of marches today
they say
there’s a shortage
of stanzas
not enough
to go around
too many jingos
out there

I hold you upside down
and I kiss your each instep
before I place you
gently on your head
atop the velvet pillow

She said simply
To let it flow
Allow yourself to clear
A placid lake
Empty halls
Resonance, blue echoes
She further advised
That I pay no mind
To ghost dancers paired
On the stage

A sun ray – epiphany –
enters my periphery
I guess it’s the tilt
of the earth on its axis
or maybe it’s just
the wind’s design
to move the leafless branch
to enable the light
to dance at the fringe
on the edge
of my awareness

Sensate
the sex
like bullets
come way too quick
intensely direct
muscles tauten
sinew tightens
lengthens
carves the lithe line
of the body
down the legs
through the stroked arch
to polished red pointes
on a rush
of warm water
she floats
reduced
to a point
face-up
calm
down
the
unwound
winding
creek

Earlier,
I wrote a poem:
Small
delicate lines
about your being
tether me to
you.
Now,
I’d like to rewrite it:
Delicate lines
about your being
tether me
to you.

Congratulations
and kudos!
You totally
– brilliantly –
shaped the pattern
the way
it’s intended
to be:
You you you!

She said
It’s just up ahead
keep coming!
then
she was gone
around the turn
a chorus of voices
faint but not
far away
more like color
than sound
paints a mist
I cannot gather
how quiet
her exit
all form
is shattered
how delicate
the ties that bind
how quickly before
we can say
the kiss
lingered
