We sang a hymn
to cardinal points,
unique refrains
from sky to ear
to mind after,
from the north front
back to south and colder.

Siblings
in tight-part-harmony,
exotic ninths – east to west,
any chorus of true hallelujah
obliges fine.

A cool breeze
in a large hall
with open windows: echoes.

Outside,
the rev of an engine
in the distance;
far and wide,
an expanse to play upon.

Leads me back right here –
upfront, stark and narrow.

To a kneeling spot
by the rail, tickled and hidden
beside a sea of white kerchiefs.

Proustian Crib Notes

capture it
this time
as it flees, capture
time feeling, time
slipping, once
it’s felt and fled

then
are the young French girls
now?

Haiku For The Other Sarah

She’s lightest when wet
Buoyant, snow-blown and windswept
Streams through steady breeze

I remember upstairs
pack the bags
quickly
Let’s fly –
Out the window
and over
the sash

To the rooftop
right ‘cross
the street
Oh we’ll tarry!
And we’ll nary
miss on the crash

Happy Friday
to all,
Love –
Mad Dash

Iris In Stars

chagall backdrop

I have so much to say today
so I shake you to wake you

Get up! and I’ll tell you
of life that bursts
to get inside

Your mind and your heart,
need I mention the soul?

If indeed there are
such things

Fragile things that come and go
once, or twice, I don’t really know
though I do when it’s only me

I dreamed that I once was atop a hill
wondering which way was down
so I followed the cooler breeze

Was that you where the sand ran
dry to wet at the edge of the dense brush
opening wide to the sea?

Of all that we were and all that we are
in prayer that we’ll someday be

Wake up! I’ve so much to tell you

Absolutely Cause To Celebrate

She tells herself to let go – soar –
and so she does
and soar she does
but only for just a short while

She often walks on coals
then her soles burn hot
then her soul burns hot
she is lost in her gaze, fixed on her spot right there

Okay to breathe now. How your shoulders smell like rain
and apple dew.

We carve a single stretch, a shared arc – a yawn on the wall
our bodies run long supple lines intertwined pulsed at all the right points
just like DNA

in June on a picnic blanket overwhelmed by the possibilities on all fronts

She dances herself into tight glass
corners in high places, finds herself looking
down where lights light up way down there somewhere far below where it’s before
there was anyone other, besides, else, or at all

Before there was reason to bawl
Before there was reason to ball

Prisms

In my dream it’s before the loss,
he’s that little boy in the flowers
running about me with a garden hose
soaking my blouse, he laughs crazily
happy, his short hair beaded
with sweat and water, and each of those
reflects the sun of a gone again
perfect day.

Sky Play

chagall backdrop

The northern lights are visible this weekend
though overcast skies keep them from us; late Sunday
they blow away to reveal a cold bowl of stars,
dark wisps, sprigs of clouds, halos, coiled pasta,
organic tendrils; we let go the tether and ride the turbulence

Sad duets lost at the bridge, flicker wildly,
strive to hold their flame; so much burns so quickly

With you along the night passes slowly, deliciously
under swirling polar lights, concentric heavens,
odysseys etched in the dome, the routes of gods to God;
early wayward travelers gaze down to balance our heavenly vigor

Immortality is knowing,
we sample each permutation,
subtle flavors, acquired tastes

We are naked, dead in each others arms,
the end of the earth at the pole, frozen,
fused blue ice, unbearably, insanely happy

Haiku For Umbilical Things

God twirls each navel,
Mom told me, while he exclaims
You are finished – next!
