Our greatest achievement lies yet in our next encounter
somewhere along this way, I’m told by the same, she advises you

ancient in fact though we sometimes get lost in our fictions,

As many lights that night as there will be bells
from faraway hills, resonant peals of sound and sight
and indigo awash everywhere there is sky or earth or water.

I see tonight
is yours.
Moon crazy
scrolled shadows
by the fence.
Every glint –
each specular hint
– I attribute to you.
You remind dark earth
of past days,
you reflect the sun.

over by friends

they’ll attend,
await me.
I am coming down
within the hour.
I’ll be thirsty,
and hungry,
please drink me
and feed me

deep from within.
