What has been
since you are?
Not you surely
but the ground
about you.
Turn there then
slowly around.
See?
That’s you
projecting
shadow.
Chagall 2016
Goodbye all. I think it’s time to say so long. I had a wonderful time interacting with you in this virtual space. I’ve learned a lot from reading your works. I will miss many of you. I hope you enjoyed some of what you read here on Alphabet City. For those who truly might want to stay in touch, it’s really not that difficult. You already have everything you need.
Love & peace during this craziest time.

Are you sure you don’t want to collaborate on a loku?
Let’s!
How do you want to go about it?
Hmm … let me think about that a bit. My first reaction is that we each take a theme (either the same theme or different themes), write a series of separate haikus in isolation, mash ’em in some manner to integrate them and then massage that into a final product. Or not. The process should be fun, no?
That sounds excellent! Any ideas for themes? I’m not particularly sold on any idea, but perhaps: Urban Jungle, a warm smile, Saying Goodbye, chivalry, Generosity, disease, Ocean Tides, yearbook photos, Postcard Dreams? Any ideas?
All great ideas. I once wrote a poem that intertwined lines about the making of turquoise with those about the onset of senility. Consider the loku form:
“The poet should think of the Loku as 3 sections, the first 5 haiku long, the middle section 7 haiku, and the last again 5 haiku long. The haiku to the Loku form is as syllables are to the haiku.
There are 2 volta in the form, separating the sections, similar in purpose to the 1 volta found in a sonnet. These are the turning points, at the start of haiku 6 and 13. ”
So the theme should be such that it evolves – like day moves from morning to afternoon to evening – pivoting around the 2 volta.
I like your “saying goodbye” as one of the themes. There is pre/during/and post goodbye. Something dissolves. Perhaps a theme that grows – something contrary – to intertwine. Love – seedling stages – a building – a tumor … Thoughts?
So many many many thoughts going through my head right now. I love the idea of transition and change unfolding through the three different stages. Honestly I’m so indecisive… and these are all good ideas… can you choose one?
OK: 1. love lost – then found – then lost again – 2. the lifecycle of a star (the heavenly kind, not Hollywood). Thoughts? Feel free to adjust, accept or reject. Once we get themes we can talk about dynamics of collaboration. —CC
I think I could write more naturally about lost and foundness than a star’s life cycle (that might take some research–not that I’m opposed to that). Lost-found-lost is pretty bleak, depending on what we’re talking about. What do you think of found-lost-found?
Cool. You go found-lost-found and your message will be an optimistic one, and I will take lifecycle of a star which ends less upbeat, the star losing its light, a remnant of what it once was, and I think the 2 will intertwine brilliantly. Yes?
Sorry for the late response! Will certainly start writing now 😀
Awesome. How will you set about to write? 17 haikus on your theme then?
If you need 17, I will write 17. 😀
Shall we set ourselves a deadline for having the 17 completed – yours and mine? JAN 1 2017? Earlier? Later?
Jan 1 is an ok deadline, but we could make it sooner. Dec. 1st? I’d be fine with anything, really. 🙂
DEC 1 it is – there or abouts. 🙂
Keep the faith, wordcoaster. Here are my first 2 haikus – rough draft. Love you man.
Remember the loku. Don’t get lost in the finer detail. 🙂
Stars are formed in clouds
Of gas and dust, nebulae
Nuclear at core
Stars provide enough
Energy brightly for years
The exact lifetime
Sad to see you go! Will miss your wonderful work 🙂
Thank you. Always be just you – it’s easiest that way. 🙂
I came by because it had been a while and I’m sad to see that this is your last post. 😦 I’m glad you kept the blog up so the blogosphere can still enjoy your work. 🙂
Be well, my friend. ❤
