Figure And Ground

With certainty I sense what’s timeless
so therefore I am, aren’t I?

It’s a light that shines forever,
a tone with no break for interval.

It’s the moment of you, the thought of you,
the underbelly of you upon my shoulders.

Within that light play fine shadows, disturbed
branches windblown in time.

The doppler of the carousel horses rise then fall
round and rise then fall again.

It is this mere one lifetime with you,
the incessant farewell of moments.

At any time you’ll be here.
At any time you’ll be gone.

Uncertainty senses this timeless
alone, aloft with no tether.

Lifesize Colors

I miss the suspense – that delicious hour, sometimes a week –
of waiting for my photos.

Isn’t this one brighter,
isn’t it worthy? The stars
will one day be perfect, given
the time, kindly mark my word.

The Beacon

She said she’d return as a small light,
one I would see should sadness surround me.

No need to search, just open your heart
I’ll guide you out of the dark

I miss her always
She’s approximately now
One single light year

The Orange Tobogganist

Atop the snow’s dappled sunspots I sleigh
solar flare speeds me downhill
I’ve a tail of ice, steam, mist
and blinding white light

Light #1
I’ve a string of white bulbs that run up-along-down the wide wall of my porch
where I sit sometimes with my back to them wearing my glasses;
their image reflects on my lenses from behind, photons in the metal rims perhaps,
making everything appear as if staged through a proscenium arc of white neon walking beads.

Light #2
I was in my neighbor’s garden last night
right at that time when solar day-charging outdoor lights
kick in. In the middle of the patch was a small
electronic elf on sky-cycle, pedaling gently, emitting ice-blue pinwheel sparks
there among autumn sunflowers.

Circles

chagall backdrop

I pick ground tubers
orange, white, deep purple,
while my students practice
yoga ’bout the hills
around us

In morning sun and overnight dew
I laugh then cry through the splendor

Prisms of light diffract there
on my lashes beaded rainbows

I close my eyes slowly till I am consumed
by indigo, orange,
white, deep purple
