Bigger than Bubbles

I was confused by her leaving, thought it instead
the roar of the ocean or the fall of the sky

She made the waves rise for she is the water
upon You I played splashingly wonderful, once when young

Earth ends, sky reigns, there on the thin line
where I’ve tiptoed appearing nimbly soon after sunset

She in my arms, her hair a cascade over low-flying clouds
some nimbus of sorts bringing aqua-aqua to the world

In calm repose we align constellate, symbolic of who we are
on the grander scale, she so poised to take a single step

Into deeper heavens I gaze awaiting the faintest sound of a thunderous clap
signifying everything coincident with her return, aromatic escorts

With her gone comes impenetrable ground where once she was figure,
her form as empty in its definition as once it was a blossom

I bounce, a balloon on a ceiling in celestial updraft, peering,
waiting, bobbing

Confidante

You
the final ray of
sun on her face

Tell me,
did she lower her eyes and
were her cheeks flushed?

She’s a circling gull and
I am a flash among shoals.
She swoops me up and
then she releases
for I am not what she seeks.
I wash away once more to be beached
yet again on the sand down the shore
amid shells and kelp, content atop smooth
sunbaked eroded rock.

Tension and Tense

I am as young as this moment allows but no less.
Someday I’ll have been here again.

Lily for Chloe

The amaryllis she planted bloomed
when she was no longer there.

Red passionate flower unseen
follows the sun regardless.

A peacock-fan of fronds protects
the stem.

It’s a virus that striates the petals,
imbues them with streaks of pinks.

Where she kneeled to sow, the earth
holds two soft dimples still.

These well with water on rainy days
but dry quite sere in full sun.

I am overwhelmed by sight, smell
and sound, this day just like then.

I close my eyes, open my heart,
to hear and to feel her again.

A Wry Rise

Light will guide me back
To ascension, a view from above,
Lofty gray weightlessness,
Ethereal suspension among birds
Of distinction, marked no longer
By petty ways, now only grand schemes
To return one again to a state of grace,
To engulf my self, to imbibe as well
The liquid of life, thus to hang in the balance,
Neither here nor there as it should be, to be
Either actually is a penchant unchained still linked
To time, once blinded I sensed the fence surrounding
Me so I blinked and clicked my heels, an attempt to awaken,
To rise, to ascend, score a view from above in the lofty gray.

Weightless.

When i Grow Up

I will cash in on thespian knowledge
So I really must know how to act
Or make a fortune while foretelling karma
Still I’d owe way too much deep in debt
So I’ll seek to reap riches from relating tales
About life being grand at the edge
Where only sweet water flows across miles
Evanescent, effervescent, ever long

In Edgeways

The note of the birdsong lies solidly
suspended in the hollow of blue space.

The temperature of my body is precisely
the degree of the world enveloping me.

A simple brushstroke, tapered glyphs
weighty enough to have gravity, flutters.

About you I watch dusty particles dance
in light that is more than merely a halo.

Illumination.

Weeping Skies for the First Time

The tapping whisper of rain,
Gulls soar, serifs against the long stretch
Of sky and land, the mosaic face of water,
Morning air, thin and cold, early day
Mist envelops always, hope is desire
To release, to touch the atmosphere,
To mean the words yet to find tongues,
Tone recedes into tones receding, the far edge
Where filaments unravel into the empty, void
Unless stamped otherwise, a puddle to stomp,
A bright yellow-slicker, the tapping whisper
of rain.

Biding

Everyday I find myself
with less incentive,
diminished energy;
subdued, I stoke
my flame for
the long
haul.
