I did not think I would write today,
living life had more allure until
I reached too far, I felt too
deeply, I fell ever so gently
from such a short height,
that’s all it took
to be here.

Mouthing the Words

The gape, tongue off hard palette, the gape again,
teeth into bottom lip, expulsion of air, say I Love You

I’m exploring why this one particular

The Morning After Eve

The hot water of the shower spray
feels great on her face, after
an all-night cry

Who knew such
a recurring but
fleeting thought
could provoke so
many tears?

Under the mist
she promises
herself today
will be no different

Sotto Voce

I have no energy left yet so much to say.

No, that’s not right. I simply have need to say something.
There is no specific content or quantity in mind.

I hope that in describing that need
I’ve said something.

Writing is no longer a viable alternative
for that primal scream I would emit
hurling myself off a rooftop.

Outside In (Cued But Cute)

I knew you would say that.
Don’t believe me? Look!
I wrote this down in advance –
your words exactly, no?
You’re predictable in that way.
I watch you here from this open field,
you there in your seething cage,
but I will only wait so long.

Fine Line

I’m not certain
that my unhappiness
over your sadness
and my desire for you
to be nothing but happy
is really the same
as loving you
