…If I Want To

the balloon from your party
still holds its helium
long after
you're
gone

it bobs there yet
in the ceiling
corner

its long rainbow tassel
a curlicue of color

in time it will slide down the wall
without promise of rising
anymore

all the best wishes of the day
flattened and peeling

inert

The Pace of Days

She waits.
Starlight
appears
now. Then
she cries
softly
alone.

Not Much To Ask

She wipes her tears away
a soft fold of white tat
lace doesn’t daub well
merely smears the sadness
she feels, has always felt

She’d rather it rain down
blow a hole inside her soul
hollow out the echoes once again
blues – nothing but blues wash her
away to find lost paradise

Pine

I retrace the line of
her handwritten note
to make me feel
she’s still here

Homophonic

here where there
is no
rip cord
nor zip line
i howl full bore
lost at the timberline
here where the air
is thin unseen
creatures scurry
i can
hear where they’re
hidden
lit towns
below me beckon
there where her
heart lies
there where there’s
no rest for the weary no
rest for the weary
no rest i remain
here where there’s
dark where i am the heir
apparent to invisible matter

The March of Little Soldiers

What I thought were
tiny ants
were really splays of sun
that turned out to be
wee ants

Afloat social nets
We value cold illusion

The Commute

chagall-backdrop4.jpg

At the stop sign
in the tinted glass
of the hatchback
before me, reflections
of eagles flying
until the small blue
import in front proceeds,
leaving me next, alone
at the corner. I crane
to gaze out my sunroof,
a final glimpse of echelon.

So Flight I Can Almost Touch It

chagall-backdrop4.jpg

I realized then that it was far, far away
in the distance, the small v of an eagle
who slowly rises, dips on currents of air
