Just Saying

They’ve changed
the laws ’round
here so you can
smoke pot as long as you can
prove you couldn’t have been
better off doing something
else elsewhere

Alphabet City does not condemn nor condone the consumption of words.

The Pair

She couldn’t
remember which
we’d said we’d want
so she brought both
calliopes as well
as kaleidoscopes how
wonderful they went
hand-in-hand

I Think This Is Right, No?

Keep moving
we must follow
every drop of ray
must fall – alight
make truer yet
the glow of our skins

we are all
beautiful people
in sunset

tomorrows
wax deliciously
like sunrise – all new days

that’s what hope
looks like blind
faith keeps coming
long the day after

angle me so
I can watch
the last fade
of the light

Partly Misty

The forecast missed her small tornadoes
she of far beyond uncharted water
right-side up the least preferred way
to travel, she’d grab my cheek to help me
to navigate warm currents among shallows
where safe is illusion cast by shoals
luminous looming jutting crags
on sky as ground, with God as witness
her hand held up to Nowhere running wild
through tiny cracks in our being

Willed Free

How did we get here – do you know?
I asked uncertain of the blue

in the surrounding she replied
They’ve decided the moment repeats forever

Just you and me

I understood the nature of fate, she knew
It will have to do

Hey, You A Muse?

I must be careful
as I proceed from this point
to resist the urge to fly

So I will stay grounded
though notice my ankles stretch
upward forever in flight

I wear lime-yellow argyles
socks where you’re supposed to be
looking

Crazy zig zags man
– give a brother a pound and
say see you later

I’m heading to the roof now
someone’s predicted occurrences foreseen that
I’ll need to be flying to

I’m sorry
I could only resist
for so long

Way With Words

We all understood it
at the same time

But I was able
to articulate it swiftly

So
sue me

The Go-Between

I told her
as you had asked
that she knew nothing of moons

that it was waxing and gibbous

and she replied to tell you that
you are an idiot as anyone can see
that it’s nothing of the sort

but indeed instead waning crescent

She added
it comes with old age

then she gave me this kiss and this locket
she said that you’d know

Swoopin’

I fly quicker
atop cold currents
loving blend of my heat
in chilled wind

Warmer drafts
slow me I drift
lazily languorous

Untitled #11

I.
Today I sensed
in the care of a plant
what I needed to do

II.
Today I sensed
during care of a plant
what I needed to do

III.
Today I sensed that
the care of it all
is what I needed to do

IV.
Today I sensed in
the care of it all
that I was needed
