Alight on fragrant air,
I somersault wildly
upside-down in updrafts,
born to barrel roll.
Ascension is my only
flight plan.

My mother comes to me
in dreams
I ask
Where are you, Mom?
she says Heaven
Relieved, I ask
Are you happy, Mom?
She dips her hand in a shallow pool
the water cascades from her palm down her arm
she nods then adds
Though everyone here is starving

I’ve reshaped the constellations
to reflect what I see
I have no interest in
how others see heaven
Makes it so easy
to now know the sky
